Adult Education Program
The Adult Education Program provides assistance that helps Missouri adults become productive workers, family members, and citizens. It is designed to enable adults the opportunity to acquire the basic skills necessary to function in society and continue their education to at least the level of completion of secondary school.
Our classes here at SWFLC in East Prairie are Monday though Friday from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. Our classes consist of Job Development/Health Literacy, Math, and Language Arts. We also offer one-on-one tutoring or assistance from a computer based instruction learning progam (PACE).
Classes are free of charge and there is open enrollment. Anyone wanting to sign up, should call (573) 649-3731 to get started. Students will go through an orientation process before they can be tested. The TABE test will determine placement level and strengths/weaknesses of each student. These tests give the instructors valuable information on how to best reach each student.
Nigth classes are held in Charleston at the Helen Currin Building on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. GED classes are also held at New Madrid County Central High School as part of our curriculum. Those classes are offered Monday through Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
We like to take every oppportunity to acknowledge and praise our students for their efforts to succeed academically. Each month we hold a recognition ceremony. We annouce a "Student of the Month", and congratulate those individuals with perfect attendance. We also give out "Star Student" awards to those participants who have shown significant progress in "TABE" testing.
We hold at least two graduations each year, with the most recent one being in January. We have several students who attend classes on a regular basis and are working hard to obtain their individual goals. We at SWFLC are committed to helping them obtain their planned goals.
